Can I prevent sources entered into the WYSIWYG editor from being automatically converted?
Sources entered in a WYSIWYG field are automatically converted by two processes, normalization by the editor (CKEditor) and sanitization by server-side processing. Normalization by CKEditor is due to the specifications of CKEditor, and this is difficult to modify on Kuroco's end.
If you want to manage sources exactly as entered, use an HTML field instead of a WYSIWYG field.
Why the automatic conversion occurs
Normalization by CKEditor
The WYSIWYG editor (CKEditor) reinterprets the entered HTML in its own format and rebuilds the HTML (normalization). As a result, HTML in a format that the editor cannot handle may be automatically converted.
The specifications of normalization are not published. The following are some of the behaviors:
<span>tags with no content are removed is inserted into<p>tags with no content<table>is wrapped in<figure class="table"><tr>that does not belong to<thead>/<tbody>is wrapped in<tbody><caption>in<table>is converted to<figcaption>directly under<figure>
Normalization by CKEditor cannot be prevented even if [Allow all tags] is enabled on the WYSIWYG field.
Sanitization by server-side processing
When [Allow all tags] under [Input restriction] of the WYSIWYG field is disabled, tags that are not allowed (such as <script> tags) are removed on save by the server-side sanitization process. When [Allow all tags] is enabled, this sanitization process is not performed.
For the list of tags available by default, see List of extension items available in the content structure.
How to manage sources exactly as entered
HTML fields are not normalized by a WYSIWYG editor. If you want to manage sources exactly as entered, add a new HTML field to the content structure and use it.
